Ingredients

For the tea

  • 6 black tea bags
  • 2½ cups water
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 star anise
  • 1 Tbsp whole cardamom
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • ¼ vanilla bean
  • 2 tsp ground turmeric
  • 2 tsp sugar

For the milk

  • ¼ cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 Tbsp evaporated milk

For serving

  • Ice
  • Mint leaves

Instructions

  1. Put the tea bags, water, vanilla extract, star anise, cardamom, cinnamon, vanilla bean, turmeric and sugar in a medium pot.
  2. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, then lower the heat and simmer for 3–5 minutes.
  3. Strain out the tea bags and spices and let the tea cool for 10–15 minutes.
  4. Whisk the condensed milk and evaporated milk together until smooth.
  5. Fill two glasses with ice and pour in the tea.
  6. Pour the milk over the top and garnish with mint.

Notes & substitutions

The turmeric gives the tea its warm orange color. Let the tea cool before pouring it over ice so the ice doesn’t melt straight away.
